The Danger of Self-loathing

Sometimes were are attacked from the inside. If only I had done this… If only I weren’t so (insert description). What would my life be if I had made different choices? Why am I not like so and so? Why am I weird… Why do I keep making the same mistakes?

The devil wants us to get stuck in that pattern of feeling inadequate. That is his go-to plan. The original gas lighter, he told Eve she wasn’t enough. Once he had her convinced she was inadequate, he swooped in and tempted her to make the wrong choice and try to fix it herself.

This is a trick we see over and over in the lives of those in the Bible. The devil tells us we’re unworthy, then follows up with a solution. “You stink, but it can be fixed. You have to act now, and you’ll then make easy payments of remorse, defeat, shame, etc.”

The truth of this matter is God loves us.

He knows us better than anyone.

He loves us not because of, but rather in spite of.

He loves us so much He sent His only Son to save us.

If all that is true, and it is, then we must see ourselves as worthy, because God does.
